DMK
Associates was originally retained by Aqua Utilities Florida
(AUF) to prepare a Preliminary Design Report (PDR) for the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The PDR was
tailored to reflect an initial re-rating of the Fruitville
Wastewater Treatment Plant (FWWTP) from its current capacity
of 1.5 million gallons per day (MGD) to 1.8 MGD and then an
expansion to 2.4 MGD. The PDR also had to address an extensive
expansion of the Reuse Areas within the Schroeder Manatee
Ranch. While the PDR was in the permitting process with FDEP,
AUF decided to skip the FWWTP re-rating and authorized DMK
to proceed directly with the preparation of construction plans
and bidding documents for the FWWTP expansion to 2.4 MGD.
DMK's design efforts included major modifications to the headworks,
new splitter box, new influent screen, a fourth process train,
new reject pond, two new digesters and a concrete superstructure
containing denitrifying filters, chlorine contact chambers
and an effluent wet well. Post design services include bidding,
negotiations with low bidder, award recommendation, and construction
engineering and inspection.
